Consumers focusing on wellness, balance

Food Business News reported on a panel discussion moderated by Sugar Association President and CEO Courtney Gaine, PhD, at the 36th annual International Sweetener Symposium held August 6, 2019, in Asheville, NC. The panel addressed recent consumer research around wellness, balance and perceptions about sugar.

Reporter Ron Sterk highlights the research presented by Mintel Consulting and Quadrant Strategies showing that consumers are focusing more on the ides of wellness and balance and moving away from restrictive concepts such as dieting and moderation. The findings also show that while consumers are confused about sugar and food in general and don’t necessarily know what “healthy” is, they tend to have a positive view of sugar.
