Santa’s Favorite Christmas Cookies

Turns out our favorite cookie is also Santa's! Use this classic sugar cookie recipe when you make cookies on Christmas Eve.

As Santa Claus puts the finishing touches on all the gifts he will deliver on Christmas Eve, we can begin to prepare the cookies that will be left out for him. But, if you’re left wondering what types of cookies Santa prefers, we’ve got you covered. According to the blog Eat This, Not That!, sugar cookies are Santa’s top treat. While this is no surprise to us, they have 16 other recipes you can try as well.

Use this classic recipe that my family has been making for generations to welcome Santa into our homes each year.

 

Santa’s Christmas Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 C butter
  • 1 ½ C sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 ½ C flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  • Cream butter and sugar
  • Add eggs and vanilla; beat well
  • Sift dry ingredients together and fold in
  • Roll into desired thickness
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes, or until done
  • The dough does not need to be chilled

 

For the icing (The frosting is very soft but hardens and keeps the cookies soft)

Ingredients

  • ½ C shortening
  • 1 bag powdered sugar
  • milk

Instructions

  • Beat the shortening with a mixer until fluffy
  • Add powdered sugar and a tablespoon of milk
  • Add more milk in small amounts until the frosting is of spreading consistency
