Sugar Association says FDA should rethink plans for Nutrition Facts panel education campaign

IEG Policy interviewed the Sugar Association President and CEO Courtney Gaine, PhD, RD, following the organization’s comment on the FDA’s Draft Nutrition Innovation Strategy. In their comment, Dr. Gaine shared concerns over a single-nutrient focus (added sugars) vs. dietary patterns as the agency plans their nutrition facts education program.

“While FDA has yet to release specific details about its upcoming Nutrition Facts labels consumer education campaign, at least one industry group, the Sugar Association, is already feeling uneasy about the effort.”
